The 14th edition of the edie awards took place on 3 February 2021. These awards recognise excellence across the spectrum of green business; from the best efficiency programmes through to product innovations, from stakeholder engagement and social sustainability initiatives to the people on the ground who are making change happen. In 2021, our sustainability team captured two wins at the prestigious event.
Julia Barrett - Sustainability Leader of the Year
edie recognised the role chief sustainability officer Julia Barrett has played in the creation of our industry-leading sustainability strategy. Now or Never sets us the most ambitious science-based target in the construction sector, as we pledge to be a zero carbon business by 2030.
Having joined Willmott Dixon in 2012, Julia has led the sustainability agenda across the business, with key achievements including being carbon neutral since 2012. Under Julia’s leadership, we have won three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise – two for Sustainable Development and one for Promoting Social Mobility.
Jono Ayton - Rising Sustainability Star
Sustainable development manager Jono Ayton’s Rising Sustainability Star award builds on his 2020 edie recognition, where he was placed on their second cohort of members of its 30 Under 30 initiative – a group of bright and ambitious rising sustainability and energy stars from across the UK.
After joining Willmott Dixon in 2015, in 2019 he has led us to achieve Level 2 of Carbon-Trust-Supply-Chain-Standard after identifying potential energy cost savings of up to £200,000 for our high-impact supply chain partners. He is also leading our drive to achieve the Level 3 standard, as well as championing our group wide electric vehicle initiative, playing a key role in reducing carbon emissions as detailed in our Now or Never 2030 Sustainability Strategy.
Building on our Now or Never 2030 Sustainability Strategy commitments
edie’s recognition confirms that our approach to sustainability and social value is one of the strongest in the industry. Through our Now or Never 2030 Sustainability Strategy, we pledge to be a zero carbon business by 2030 as well as delivering high-impact social value which we can demonstrate meets the needs of the local communities. We will improve the lives of 100,000 people and 100 young people who faced significant barriers to the workplace will have careers with Willmott Dixon.
