Ramsgate Pathfinder Project

Transforming Ramsgate's historic harbour into a vibrant cultural destination

Procured through the SCAPE framework, we are delivering the Clock House museum and new café extension as part of the Pathfinder grant funded Programme. The Clock House project commenced work on site in August 2025 and aims to be completed autumn 2026.

This project represents a transformative regeneration project for Ramsgate Royal Harbour, made possible through significant investment awarded by central government to Thanet District Council. This development will breathe new life into the Grade II* listed building, creating a modern cultural heritage exhibition space while preserving the character and maritime history that makes Ramsgate so special.

The project addresses the need to protect existing museum collections while creating vibrant public spaces, serving residents and visitors.

What are we building?

The Clock House restoration:

  • Carefully restoring the Grade II* Listed building
  • Modern exhibition spaces
  • Demolition and removal of existing containers adjoining to the Clock House
  • New café extension adjoining to the Clock House

Richard Poulter, Managing Director for Willmott Dixon Construction South, commented:

"Ramsgate Pathfinder Project is exactly the type of transformative project that demonstrates how thoughtful restoration, and regeneration can create lasting community benefits. We're proud to be working with Thanet District Council to preserve this important piece of maritime heritage while creating modern facilities that will serve the community for generations to come."

Project benefits

This heritage-focused regeneration project delivers multiple community benefits beyond the physical restoration. The new facilities will provide a space for enhanced cultural experiences for residents while attracting visitors.

The project will support local good causes with activities such as laptop donations, toy donations and homeless warm packs. The team will also engage with local schools and colleges providing talks, activities and work experience.

The project exemplifies our commitment to heritage conservation, combining careful restoration techniques with modern design to ensure the Clock House continues to serve the community whilst meeting accessibility and visitor experience standards.
