Adept at working in busy campuses

To win a Stirling Prize for a university

We're one of the UK's most experienced builders of colleges and universities - from a Stirling Prize-winning landmark to Passivhaus research facilities - trusted to deliver exceptional places to learn, often on live, occupied campuses.

Whether you're expanding a campus, adding new facilities or building something entirely new, we bring a depth of education experience few contractors can match: work with more than 25 universities and colleges the length of the country, award-winning quality, sector-leading sustainability, and an instinctive understanding of what makes a learning environment work.

Working in live campus environments

A campus never stops, and one of the main reasons clients choose us is our ability to build in the middle of busy, operational sites without disrupting teaching or daily life.

From the heart of the University of Birmingham campus to a working town-centre college in Rochdale and a live NHS hospital site in Bolton, we plan phasing, logistics and stakeholder engagement so that students and staff barely notice the work going on around them.

Award-winning quality

Our buildings are recognised among the best in the country. Town House at Kingston University - which we delivered as main contractor - won the 2021 RIBA Stirling Prize and went on to take the 2022 Mies van der Rohe Award as Europe's best new building, the first time a university building had ever won it. Kingston praised how our construction quality brought the architects' vision to life.

Elsewhere, Teesside University's Student Life building won a RICS Social Impact Award, and our University of Warwick research building was delivered to a world-class, industry-leading standard.

Leading on net zero and Passivhaus

Education estates face decades of running costs, so low-carbon design has never mattered more - and it's an area where we lead. We've delivered the University of Exeter's Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre to the demanding Passivhaus Classic standard, built Leicester University's Passivhaus-certified Centre for Medicine, and we're delivering net zero carbon in operation campuses for Bridgend College and Hopwood Hall College.

We also pioneer low-carbon materials and sustainable retrofit, retaining existing structures to preserve their embodied carbon wherever we can.

Building the skills the economy needs

The right buildings help colleges and universities produce the talent the country depends on.

Across our recent work we're expanding provision in construction, engineering and green skills (College of North West London), digital and applied science (The Quad in Telford), and NHS healthcare training (the Bolton Institute of Medical Sciences) - equipping the next generation with the practical expertise employers need.

Easy to appoint, ready for the start of term

We deliver new-build, refurbishment, retrofit and repairs-and-maintenance, and our place on the major public sector frameworks - including the DfE Construction Framework, SCAPE, the Southern Construction Framework and SEWSCAP - means clients can appoint us quickly, without a lengthy procurement process.

Whatever the route, we deliver to the deadline that matters most in education: ready for the start of term.
