Willmott Dixon secures second project in a year with Queen Mary University of London
Latest project follows work to enlarge the Informatics and Technology Learning building in Bethnal Green
Latest project to create homes especially tailored for the needs of those over 55
Willmott Dixon is adding to its extensive track-record in the retirement sector after being appointed by Woking Borough Council to deliver Hale End Court, which will provide independent living and extra care housing facilities in Old Woking, Surrey.
Procured through the SCF framework, the four-storey residence will be a mix of 48 one and two-bed flats with facilities designed to ensure residents can enjoy living independently while also being supported when needed.
This approach will see each apartment have a fully equipped kitchen, while also giving residents access to community amenities such as shared kitchen, living and dining space, with a landscaped outdoor courtyard providing extra space for socialising and recreational activities. Willmott Dixon is working with HNW Architects, with Turner & Townsend providing project management.
Hale End Court is the tenth supported living facility in Woking Borough Council’s portfolio of affordable independent living dwellings. Cllr Simon Ashall, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Living Well and Wellbeing Services, said:
“With the average age of the population rising steadily, we have a significant need in the borough for more suitable, affordable dwellings that our most vulnerable elderly neighbours can call home. We are delighted that funding has been identified to build a new facility for this purpose on disused land in Old Woking, allowing more people to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, in comfort and with the peace of mind that help is never far away should they require it.”
Willmott Dixon’s recent work delivering homes for people over 55 include building 94 homes at Bristol Court for London Borough of Hounslow and the new Winwood Heights retirement village for Nottingham City Homes, while it has just started Watkins House in Harrow, providing 58 extra-care apartments for Harrow Churches Housing Association and Octavia.
