Senior/Principal Quantity Surveyor

Willmott Dixon are looking to recruit an experienced Senior/Principal Quantity Surveyor to join our construction South team to take responsibility for leading on the commercial element of projects in Preconstruction stage.


With offices in Weybridge, Dartford and Farnborough, we deliver projects across multiple sectors in the South East and we are ideally seeking someone who would be based in either our Weybridge or Farnborough office. Willmott Dixon operate hybrid working so you would also be supported to work from home.


The key responsibilities of this role will include:



  1. Overseeing and managing all commercial aspects of the projects including providing commercial support for pre-con team

  2. CTC and cost forecasting - Maintain and update

  3. CVC - Complete monthly

  4. CIS – Complete pre-con phase and construction phase CIS

  5. Customer letters of intent and Purchase Orders – Ensure we have sufficient coverage for any commitment to our supply chain.

  6. Consultant and CDP SCP Deeds– Support Design Manager in the completion of Consultant and CDP SCP deeds required for ‘Advanced Design’. Store in safe/Digital safe and issue copy back to consultant

  7. Survey Deeds and Sub-contracts – Complete Deeds and/or Sub-contracts for Surveys as required. Store in safe/Digital safe and issue copy back to consultant

  8. Valuations and invoicing - Complete monthly

  9. Payments & Gross Payment Limits – To all Consultants, SCPs, Stats and Planning fees during precon

  10. Change control– Manage variation both up and down to Customer and Supply Chain

  11. Contract Amendments – Liaise with Commercial Manager and negotiate and agreed PCSA and Main Contract terms and Schedule of Amendments

  12. Clarifications and Derogations – Actively contribute

  13. Profit strategy– Actively contribute

  14. 121s – Attend with 121s with Surveyors engaged in Substantiation

  15. Substantiation - Manage Substantiation objectives and lead Surveyors responsibly for Substantiation. Complete Substantiation Verification form

  16. Cash / Capital Employed strategy – Carry out regular checks in line with Willmott Dixon strategy

  17. Cashflows – Produce and maintain cashflows required by Customers

  18. Payment Terms – Ensure compliance with Framework Agreements

  19. WIP – Monitor, maintain and influence

  20. Activity Schedules – Actively contribute to ensure best possible position to help cash position

  21. Finance Dept - Keep finance team informed of cost being posted to Overhead and complete 13 week cash forecasts

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential Criteria



  • A high level of organisation and achieving deadlines and delivering profitable projects.

  • Quantity surveying technical knowledge and understanding.

  • Understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract

  • Being able to manage and report on more than one project at a time.

  • Providing feedback for new and effective systems and controls for the business.

  • Positively reacting to change and assisting in its implementation in the business.

  • A track record of successful procurement.

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.

  • Appropriate CSCS card.

  • Management of a team

  • Excellent communication skills


Desirable Criteria



  • Construction related degree.

  • Membership or working towards MCIOB or RICS.
