We safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, those who work with us and anyone affected by our works.

Protecting the environments we work in is always a top priority and we aim to leave things in a better state than when we found them.

With our accredited systems and procedures, we go beyond legal compliance aiming to deliver best-in-class safety, health and environmental (SHE) practice. Our core belief is that no one should suffer from ill health, (physical or mental) or an accident at work.

Accident Frequency Rates

In 2024, we had 20 RIDDOR reportable incidents (10 Specified Injury-RIDDORS) across a total of 9,772,672 hours worked on site, compared to five in 2023 and 21 in 2022.

This gave us an Accident Frequency Rate of 0.20 (2023: 0.04) with 85% of projects completed without a reportable incident. Our incident response procedures were followed with full communication to all stakeholders and no further action was taken. We had no prosecutions during the year.

While this performance remains good, it does represent an increase in AFR and we will be implementing a series of improvements during 2025.

Considerate Constructors Scheme and CLOCS

We work with other industry leaders to raise standards and build public trust by registering our sites when required and ensuring they abide by the voluntary Code of Considerate Practice. Sites are monitored in three areas: respecting the community, caring for the environment and valuing the workforce.

In 2024, our average score across registered projects was 44.11/50. The overall national average for CCS sites is around 36.

Our commitment as a Champion of the Construction Logistics Community Safety (CLOCS) continued in 2024.

Risk management and compliance

We maintained an integrated risk management system for health, safety and environmental disciplines (Environmental Management System ISO14001:2015, Occupation Health and Safety management system ISO45001:2018).

Our Environmental Incident Frequency Rate increased to 0.09 in 2024, from 0.02 in 2023. This measure reports the number of incidents which had the potential to cause harm to the environment per 100,000 hours worked. We had one warning letter from Natural Resources Wales due to silt run off during extreme weather conditions during 2024. Additional measures were put in place to protect the environment and lessons learnt have been embedded into our procedures.

Assuring Information Security

At Willmott Dixon, we hold both ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications, which underline our commitment to cyber security and underpin our information security strategy as well as conforming to the National Cyber Security Centre’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security. During 2024, we transitioned to the newest version of ISO27001:2022, which added controls for cloud security. In addition, we also hold ISO19650-5, which assures our approach to securely managing built asset data and information.

A safe and sustainable driving culture

Our people should have the knowledge and skills to stay safe on the road, and the vehicles they drive or operate should be legally compliant.

In 2024, 450 of our 471 company car drivers using fleet vehicles have dashcams. We work closely our people and TTC Group to oversee the compliance of our people as drivers and our fleet.

All our people undergo licence, health and roadworthiness checks before being allowed to drive for business. We also carry out an online risk assessment, evaluating each driver’s attitude, experience, knowledge, and history. And a series of eLearning modules provide information on key road safety topics such as fatigue, braking and breakdown procedures.

During 2024 1,627 driver-related e-learning modules were completed.
