Broadland Food Innovation Centre

Facility designed to boost local agricultural industry.

We worked with Broadland District Council and the New Anglia LEP to deliver Broadland Food Innovation Centre. Located in the heart of the Food Enterprise Park outside Norwich and secured through the SCAPE framework, it's key to supporting the growth of local food and beverage companies.

The centre has been designed to ensure the long-term development of surrounding industry, aimed specifically at helping new and existing businesses thrive, nurturing ideas and enabling increased capacity for the processing of agricultural output.

The project comprises two linked buildings that will house 13 individual units fitted out to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) food hygiene grade. The site’s location will also minimise food miles (a core objective of Scape food and drink manufacturers is to promote local purchases), a highly welcome environmental consideration. The site itself incorporates a landscaped “green street”, which is centrally located between the two buildings, with a ring road allowing for easy access to the units.

Essential to the project are spaces for innovation and testing. A focal point in the building is the Hub, which serves as a bridge between the office and production spaces. Here, a dedicated test kitchen and sensory tasting spaces has been built to drive tenants’ product development.

Sustainability is a core consideration of the centre too: the buildings were designed to the BREEAM “Excellent” environmental standard, and an array of photovoltaic panels harnesses the sun’s energy to generate electricity at the facility.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • The new centre will enhance product testing and increase local agricultural output.
  • Units constructed to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) food hygiene grade.
  • The two linked buildings are designed to the BREEAM “Excellent” environmental standard.
