Staff from Willmott Dixon's Burton-upon-Trent repairs and maintenance branch gave advice and shared industry knowledge with local people in a career event to highlight ‘Worklessness Day’.
The event, organised with Willmott Dixon’s client Trent and Dove Housing, brought together local businesses and organisations working in the Burton area with those currently unemployed so that advice can be sought from individuals working across a range of industries.
Willmott Dixon is currently working with Trent and Dove Housing to repair and maintain 5,200 homes in the East Staffordshire area. Marie Hope, Willmott Dixon’s tenant liaison officer on the Burton contract said, “We continually seek to work with communities to help leave a lasting legacy and hope by attending this event we can offer advice and help to those seeking to gain employment. We offer great work experience and apprenticeship opportunities and believe there are various routes into employment. We look forward to meeting with the people of Burton.”
Willmott Dixon has been involved with similar events in Burton and this will be the third time that the company has been on hand to offer help and advice. Melissa Doxey, 16, is one person to have benefitted from Willmott Dixon’s expertise. She attended last year’s career day and has successfully gained employment as a multiskilled apprentice with Willmott Dixon’s Burton branch.
Marie added, “Melissa showed such enthusiasm and willingness to learn from day one. She has gone on to prove that she is more than capable to do the job in hand and we hope to find more people like her at future events. ”
