Willmott Dixon appointed for Gravesend's new £43m Cascades Leisure Centre
Follows successful delivery of the nearby Cozenton Park Sports Centre in Rainham for Medway Council
Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Ealing Council for a £16.5 million contract to refurbish the historic Acton Town Hall and Baths to house a range of leisure, community and civic services.
The Acton Town Hall regeneration will realise the Council’s vision for ‘A new heart for Acton’ by improving and expanding the Acton Town Hall complex that was originally built at the start of the 20th century to serve Acton’s growing population.
While retaining the Town Hall’s heritage, the project includes demolition of Acton’s former baths building which will be replaced by a new three-storey building housing a 25 metre swimming pool and a trainer pool, along with modern fitness and leisure facilities including a larger gym.
Part of the Town Hall will also be kept and refurbished to create a new library and council offices and the Town Hall’s iconic frontage and the baths chimney, listed Grade II, will also be restored.
Designed by S&P Architects, it’s the latest project for Willmott Dixon in Ealing and follows the regeneration of South Acton estate with Catalyst Housing. Willmott Dixon also worked with S&P Architects on the nearby Northolt Leisure Centre which opened in January 2010.
Chris Tredget, managing director for Willmott Dixon in North London said: “We are delighted to be working with Ealing Council to regenerate another part of Acton by redeveloping the Town Hall. We have a long track record in Ealing and are looking forward to adding to that with the improved Acton Town Hall that will be a new focal point on main high street.”
