Willmott Dixon completes STEM space at Oxford Brookes University’s Headingly Hill campus
Will stimulate further collaboration and partnerships between university, students and private sector
Willmott Dixon has won the £10.7m design and build contract to create a new three-storey main entrance and multi-storey car park at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The scheme, which will provide improved access to the hospital and 958 additional car parking spaces, will cost a total of £16.4m, with capital being borrowed from the Department of Health and paid back from income generated by retail and parking charges.
As well as improved access, Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s new entrance will include a pharmacy, retail units, café, main reception, waiting area and office accommodation. It will be the main hospital access point for most patients, visitors and staff, apart from those using the Emergency Department and the Delivery Unit who will continue to use present entry points.
The move to create a new multi-storey car park providing nearly 1,000 extra places will cater for public parking needs, with staff having access to spaces on the upper floors. The scheme also involves a redesign of the internal road layout and traffic light controls.
“The car park will be a major step forward in the provision of high quality patient care,” said hospital Acting Chief Executive Tim Welch. “We are delighted construction work has started and are pleased to be working in conjunction with Willmott Dixon, a major award-winning construction company.”
Anthony Dillon, managing director for Willmott Dixon said “We are delighted to be working with the Trust, in delivering what will be significant improvements to the facilities at Blackpool Victoria Hospital”.
