Monitoring
Our systems for capturing our environmental and community performance are among the most detailed in the business.
Site performance on waste, water and carbon is captured from each project and reported via a dashboard that provides at-a-glance data in key sustainability areas to the whole company.
Since 2024, we have used BRE’s waste management system, SmartWaste, which automates collection of environmental data from the waste supply chain and improves the accuracy of our waste performance data.
Mileage is captured through TMC, a web-based application which employees use to enter their travel details.
Community investment is captured through our community investment database.
Using the Government's social value model to guide our business practices, we identify, measure, and monitor the social, economic, and environmental impacts of our projects, beyond just the financial bottom line, to help the people and businesses in our communities to thrive.
We also assess the impact of our activities using qualitative feedback assessment and social return on investment accounting. One of the methods we use is the externally verified TOMs system (Themes Measures and Outcomes) proxy values.
Reporting
In a move towards integrated reporting, sustainable development has formed part of our Annual Report and Accounts since 2009, and our performance has been verified by Bureau Veritas.
Statutory reporting in line with the FCA Handbook, including compliance with the Streamlined Energy and Carbon reporting regulations and the Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosure is included in the company’s Annual Report and Accounts. We benchmark our performance using the Carbon Disclosure Project and Financial Times' Climate Leaders list.
Our industry-leading online platform, mi|Social, provides our customers qualitative information about the social value delivered through our projects alongside quantitative data.
We also report on our progress against our 2030 sustainability targets through our annual Now or Never Review.
