James’ Trainee Challenge: Creating Willmott Dixon's first net zero carbon pod
James created Willmott Dixon's first, off-grid renewable pod which will be used by students for years to come...
Willmott Dixon has one of the most established and successful management trainee programmes in the industry. Many of our trainees are now in senior positions within the company and some now sit on our main board, such as Chris Tredget (COO at Fortem), Graham Dundas (our CEO) and Rick Willmott (our Executive Chairman).

We will advertise our trainee roles in October and the application process lasts through to December 2025.
We then shortlist in early January and send out video interviews to be completed that month and look to do assessment in February/March 2026 with a view to making offers in April.
If you are passionate and want to succeed in construction, our trainee programme will give you the opportunity to realise your potential. This is one of the best in the industry as we have been nurturing, developing and fulfilling future managers’ potential for over 40 years.
To email our team if you do have any queries prior to the application process starting, you can do so here.
Our programme is open to school and college leavers, skilled trades people and graduates. It offers trainees the opportunity to gain experience in different jobs and disciplines.
School/college leavers/skilled trades
Are you studying for A levels, a BTEC, T levels, an HNC or already have experience in a trade and don’t want to go to university full time? Then a 4 years’ management trainee programme could be for you as you will be supported to study a relevant higher level apprenticeship qualification whilst gaining relevant work experience.
Graduates
Are you a graduate with a degree in a construction related subject? We can offer you a 2 year management trainee programme.
If you have a non-construction related degree we still want you to apply and we can offer you a 3 year management trainee programme.
Skilled tradespeople
Are you a graduate with a degree in a construction related subject? We can offer you a 2 years’ management trainee programme.
If you have a non-construction related degree we welcome your application and can offer you a 3 years’ management trainee programme. Whatever your entry point into the management trainee programme, you will follow a structured programme of placements that will expose you to all areas of construction to develop your understanding of the business as a whole and not just your chosen discipline.
The Management Trainee experience
We have lots of different courses and events that get you feeling part of the Willmott Dixon management trainee team right from the outset!
Trainee awareness programme
Our 1st year management trainees attend a two week programme which teaches the basic trade competencies through practical hands on sessions.
Trainee away days
Every year, all management trainees attend away days, undertaking a range of activities aimed at developing team building skills. It is also an opportunity for trainees to meet socially in a fun and challenging environment!
Management trainee of the year
All management trainees and former trainees who have finished their programme within the last 12 months are invited to an annual 'trainee of the year' event to celebrate the achievements of trainees throughout the year. It is here that the prestigious 'trainee of the year award' is presented.
