A quick chat with Danny:

Tell us about yourself:
I am married with 2 children who are both now at school. I like to invest in land and property. I am also responsible for PR and recruitment at my local Rotary Club in Crawley

How did you get into the industry?
Following my A levels I was keen to join the Royal Marines signing up to undertake the officers’ training…that was until my father found out about my plans and convinced me that a career in construction would be a more suitable and safer option! With this new direction I joined Willmott Dixon in 1993 as a Trainee Surveyor and the rest is history!

How you get to where you are now?
I have always had a clear strategy that supports my career ambitions. By the age of 40 I wanted to be a Director providing guidance and strategy that would make a difference to the business. This target was achieved in 2014 at the age of 39…I just about made it!

Following five years as a surveyor, I transferred in to the preconstruction side of the business which allowed me to develop strategy, negotiation and sales skills required to deliver robust projects for the company.

I learnt quite quickly in to my career that understanding the Client’s needs was key to successful delivery. I will always put the Client first, I will listen and I will learn. Building the confidence of the Client, achieving high satisfaction scores and obtaining repeat contracts is why I am in the position I am now. Delivering a quality service through all stages of a project is of my upmost priority.

Who inspires you?
I am inspired by people who are not deterred by risk and are willing to lead and continually innovating. Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Winston Churchill and Alan Sugar fit this mould. Faults can be found in all of these people but in their heart they believed in themselves and they learnt from their mistakes and came back stronger. To be the innovator trying something new and accepting failure as part of learning is where I am the most comfortable and it is through the lives led by these people that I know greater success can be achieved.
