Community investment

Whether we are constructing a building or maintaining properties we seek to develop the types of activities that will be of the most value for a particular community

We often carry out in-depth consultations with local community organisations to find out what sort of help would be most beneficial. To make sure the efforts are carried out efficiently, each project has a community development team coordinator.

For larger projects we bring together key local influencers and stakeholders to decide the best kind of help we can offer an area, whether that is through large, one-off interventions or by providing on-going support.

Typical activities include providing work experience, school visits, local employment or training, but we have also supported community festivals, rejuvenated gardens for community groups and hospices, repainted community halls and supported community cafes. What is important to us is that what we do is important to the community.

We participate in the Construction Ambassadors' scheme, where our employees visit schools, colleges and career events. They organise site visits and share positive experiences, promoting construction as a rewarding career.

Where we provide maintenance services to tenants, tenant liaison officers work with residents to develop programmes to help the local communities. For example, our 'Opening Doors' programme, which provides skills, training and work experience for local people.
